Burkina Faso is a landlocked Sahelian country with a particularly arid climate where droughts and famines occur one after the other, imposing challenging living conditions on population as the two main livelihoods in the country are agriculture, and livestock. The security crisis initiated in 2015 by armed factions has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Approximately 4.7 million people are in need of humanitarian aid and more than 2 million people are internally displaced, over 82% of whom being women and children.

Outputs:

1) The most vulnerable women, men, girls, and boys, among the displaced and host families meet their basic food needs for four months.

2)The most vulnerable women, men, girls, and boys among the displaced and host families have access to sufficient quality water and live in acceptable hygiene and sanitation conditions.

3) The most vulnerable women, men, girls, and boys among displaced and host families have access to inclusive multi-sectoral prevention services and response to gender-based violence.

4) Increased capacity of multi-sectoral emergency response through the activation of the contingency fund (crisis modifier).

Main Activities

• Under Output 1: Establishment or revitalization of existing inclusive targeting and complaints committees and training on humanitarian principles and accountability; Targeting beneficiaries through a gender-sensitive vulnerability survey; Raising awareness among beneficiaries on the process and modality of cash; Distribution of cash for food assistance according to the minimum expenditure basket adopted by the Cash Working Group.
• Under Output 2: Distribution of hygiene kits for water collection and conservation; Inventory of drinking water supply facilities in target areas and construction/rehabilitation of four infrastructures; Establishment/revitalization and training of Water User Associations and repair craftsmen on the management of works; Provision of family latrine kits to beneficiary households; Identification and training of hygiene promoters; Raising public awareness of good hygiene and sanitation practices.
• Under Output 3: Establishment and training of GBV vigilance and support groups; Raising awareness among the population on the fight against gender-based violence; Identification and training of volunteer leaders (men and boys) on positive masculinity to help mitigate the risks of GBV/SEA; Distribution of dignity kits to women and girls of childbearing age (14-49 years); Identification of GBV/SEA victims at the local level; Referral of GBV/EAS victims to the appropriate support services; Monitoring and support of GBV/SEA survivors for community reintegration.
• Under Output 4: Multi-sectoral rapid assessment of the needs of newly displaced persons; Targeting beneficiaries of spontaneous emergency assistance; Multi-sectoral emergency assistance to targeted beneficiaries; Monitoring and evaluation of emergency assistance.
