More than 15 million people are in need in Syria, including 5,3 million IDPs, 9,9 million residents and 52.700 returnees. Behind the number of 15 million people in need are 2,1 million IDPs who are living in last resort sites in northern Syria. Over a decade of the destruction of Syrian infrastructure and loss of lives, layered with a deteriorating socio-economic situation, a global pandemic and climate-induced shocks, have pushed more people into humanitarian need. Both IDPs and host populations are in urgent need of food, water and livelihoods. WASH assistance and winterisation support are particularly important, as is a multi-sectoral response to ensure access to and availability of basic services. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable, and disproportionately affected by various forms of violence.

Expected Results

• ER 1: Vulnerable peoples have adequate access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services and hygiene practices
• ER 2: Women, girls, men and boys have increased capacities to be protected from GBV and protection risks via timely and appropriate Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention, response services and protection information dissemination
• ER 3: Vulnerable affected populations have access to income generation opportunities
• ER 4: Earthquake affected women, men, girls, and boys have adequate access to cash assistance to address a range of humanitarian needs (basic and/or recovery needs).
• ER 5: Vulnerable people have adequate access to cash to address their winterization needs
• ER 6: Vulnerable people have adequate access to WASH services and hygiene practices
• ER 7: In kind winterisation assistance for vulnerable populations

Main Activities

• Provision of sufficient, safe water supplies (water system rehabilitation and maintenance, water trucking, and water storage)
• The provision of solid waste management services
• Provision of desludging services, rehabilitation of sanitation and drainage systems and install and maintain latrines/ hand washing stations
• Promote safe hygiene behaviors, focusing on how to mitigate the spread of cholera and distribution of soap
• Provision of GBV Case Management services for GBV survivors (including individual counselling, complementary referrals and integrated cash/in-kind assistance)
• Provision of psychosocial support (PSS) through individual and group counselling
• Facilitation of referrals for individuals at risk of GBV and protection violations through mobile outreach and protection help desks
• Protection information provision to women, girls, boys and men
• Provision of structured GBV awareness raising, life skills and skills building sessions
• Women Led- Action Planning and Safety Audits
• Income generation through the provision of business grant to start new/ re-establishing existing businesses.
• Multipurpose Cash Assistance as one-off support to Individuals affected by the earthquake
• Individuals reached with the timely winterization cash assistance
• Rehabilitation and/or upgrade of four water stations
• Rehabilitation and solarization of eight domestic water sources (boreholes) Support the local operators on the Operations and Management (O&M) of the rehabilitated water stations/network Provision of water trucking services
